Reflect on your mindset and YOUR responses to success and failures.

One of the most important things for us to remember is that each of our perspectives are unique. There are layers of biological, environmental, and social factors that impact the story of our lives, and not one of the stories are the exact same. The way that we view and process good and bad events in our lives becomes a health factor. It is important to acknowledge how each of these moments influence your view and mindset on life.

In addition, it is important to acknowledge when a mindset can be helpful or harmful to our mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. Being willing to reflect and know when it is time to make an adjustment to our behavior or mindset can play a pivotal role in improving our wellbeing.

  1. REFLECT ON HOW YOU RESPOND TO SUCCESSES

  • What is the biggest behavioral change you ever made?

  • Why it was important for you to adopt?

  • What type of effort did it take to get you to succeed at that behavior?

  • What type of challenges did you overcome to succeed at that behavior?

  • Who was your model for that behavior?

  • Where did you learn this behavior?

  • Did anyone give you feedback that you were able to learn from?

  • Did you ever have a setback that later make you work harder?

2. REFLECT ON HOW YOU RESPOND TO FAILURES

  • What is the biggest mistake you have ever made and what did it teach you?

  • What helps you to bounce back when things are going badly?

  • What piece of advice would you give a friend that may be close to making the same mistake?

  • Give an example of a tough or critical piece of feedback you received. What was it and what did you do about it?

  • When you fail or make a mistake what is the way that you cope with that feeling?

  • Who is the person that you talk to when you experience a mistake or failure? Why?

Strive to develop a GROWTH mindset that will allow for you to grow and learn through life. Understand that your mindset is crucial to becoming an effective nutrition counselor and will impact your counseling techniques. You are a model not only for healthy behaviors, but also a healthy mindset that embraces learning and growing to make positive health behavior changes.
